OUR LADY'S GOVERNANCE

The vision for education in Sandhurst is to provide, in partnership with our families, stimulating, enriching, liberating and nurturing learning environments in each of the Catholic school communities within Catholic Education Sandhurst Limited (CES Limited). Our Lady's Primary School is one of the Catholic school communities within CES Limited. At the heart of this vision is our commitment to the ongoing duty of care that we have for the safety, wellbeing, and inclusion of all children and young people.

The identity of the Sandhurst Catholic Schools reflects the principles of Catholic social teaching, grounded in the person of Jesus and interpreted and enacted for the “common good” in response to the “signs of the times”. These principles require that the dignity and potential of each person be fully respected within a climate that is conducive to peace, security and development. This must find expression in the relationships, structures, curricula, planning, processes and care in the everyday life of the school.

The Bishop has established the Company, CES Limited, to assume the ownership and operation of fiftytwo Catholic schools and to be responsible for the operation of further schools that will be established by the Company referred to as (Sandhurst Catholic Schools).

CES Limited Governance Charter

DUTY OF CARE

Our school in partnership with parents, guardians, and/or carers, who are the primary educators of their children, is entrusted with the holistic education of students in our school. Our school staff, therefore, have a duty of care to students to take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions that they can reasonably foresee would be likely to result in harm or injury to the student and to work for the positive wellbeing of each child.

The school owes a duty to take reasonable care that any student (or other person) on the premises will not be injured or damaged because of the state of the premises, including things done or omitted to be done to the premises.

Indeed, the school has a duty of care to provide a safe and protected environment for all students and adults in the school environment on a daily basis or in casual association.

Duty Of Care Statement

Discrimination Free School.

At Our Lady’s we value the diversity of our school community and respect the differences between employees and students, recognising that each person has individual talents and skills to bring to their work. At Our Lady’s we believe that all employees and students are entitled to work in an environment in which they can enjoy their work and their relationships with their colleagues, free from unwanted discrimination and harassment of any kind.

 Democratic Principles

Australian society is defined, among other aspects, by a belief in elected Government; by a commitment to the rule of law, to equal rights for all before the law; and by a belief in freedom of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of association. Our society is also tolerant of a range of religious, political, social and cultural beliefs and values in the context of the fundamental principle of our democracy.

The Education and Reform Act 2006 requires all education providers to operate in a manner consistent with this set of Australian democratic principles. In accordance with the Act, Our Lady's Primary School delivers curriculum programs and learning and teaching in a manner that supports and promotes the principles and practice of Australian democracy.

This includes a commitment to:
• elected government.
• the rule of law
• equal rights for all before the law
• freedom of religion
• freedom of speech and association
• the values of openness and tolerance
